Mathews Yard Set To Expand In 2023

Exciting news out of Zimmerman Marine’s Mathews, VA location!  After a year of planning, ZMI Mathews is ready to break ground on a new boat storage area that will provide almost 50% more land spots than currently offered.  Phases 1 and 2 will begin mid-March.  As the ground dries up, progress will continue with Phases 3 through 5.

When the project is complete all shaded areas on the site plan pictured above will be gravel. Current grassy areas will leveled, topsoil removed, and then backfilled with compacted gravel.  If it is a dry season, the project should be completed by mid-May.  Wet weather could delay completion until mid-June.

Steve Wallace, in charge of business development for all seven ZMI locations, says that the expansion of the Mathews yard is “important, because finding secure, reliable service and storage for catamarans on the East Coast is very difficult.”  Wallace adds that “ZMI Mathews is one of the few yards located above the Hurricane Danger latitude with catamaran hauling capability.”   That capability enables catamaran owners to meet their insurance requirements, which provides a level of safety for insurance companies.

ZMI Mathews will also be constructing a state-of-the-art Tech-machine shop with all new service offices in the summer of 2023.  These improvements, combined with our high-quality staff led by newly appointed Yard Manager Shawn Richardson and Service Coordinator Shane Humble, will give ZMI Mathews the ability to service more boats.
