38' Downeast Cruiser

Our proven and popular Z36 has been redesigned by Spencer Lincoln as a 38. The Z38 features the same layout concept as the 36, but added length, more freeboard, and a more efficient hull.

The 38 is geared toward coastal cruising for a couple, with room for occasional guests. Our customers have cruised on these boats from the Bahamas to Nova Scotia, through the Great Lakes, and up into British Columbia and Alaska. In short, this is an exceptionally capable vessel, able to handle a wide range of cruising conditions.

We build one boat each year, each boat built to order.

The main cabin is the focal point of these boats. While underway the two Stidd chairs mean that two people can enjoy the ride, facing forward with excellent visibility. While underway, you feel like you are in a pilothouse.

When the anchor drops, the chairs turn around and drop, providing two more comfortable chairs for “living room” saloon. With a comfortable settee and a Stressless recliner, this cabin offers exceptional seating, with a 360 degree of the water.

The galley “down” preserves the living room feeling of the saloon. But down doesn’t mean isolated or closed in: this galley is aft of the windshield, with an abundance of light and air above it. With line of sight communication with the helm, the galley does not feel cut off.

The head is ample and includes a stall shower, complete with a seat and easy to clean fiberglass surfaces.

In the forward cabin the centerline queen berth hinges up to provide access to generous storage areas. A dresser of drawers and hanging locker provide convenient places to stow clothing.

Power ranges from 375 HP (John Deere 6081) to 600 HP (Cummins QSC 8.3), with cruising speeds from 14-19 knots, depending on engine choice. Fuel economy will vary with speed, ranging from 2 nautical miles per gallon at 8-10 knots, to 1 mpg in the15-18 knot speeds.

We build each boat to order, one boat at a time, one boat each year. These are custom boats, and as such there is no options “list”. We work with each customer to develop the equipment list that meets your needs and aligns with any preferences you have based on previous experience. Suffice it to say that these boats are exceptionally well equipped and set up to cruise extensively.
